Pre Bending During Rolling of Shell Plates

Understanding pre-bending of steel plates during rolling

You’re rolling out a big piece of steel to make a plate. Before the whole rolling process starts, the ends of the plate are pressed into the shape they need to be. This step is called pre-bending. It’s like giving the plate a little preview of what it’s going to look like when it’s all rolled out.

Now, why do we bother with pre-bending? It’s because we want to make sure everything fits perfectly in the end. By pre-bending the ends, we can check if they match the shape they’re supposed to be. We use a template to make sure they’re just right.

Once we’ve got the ends pre-bent and checked, then we go ahead with the full rolling process. This is where the whole plate gets rolled out into its final shape. But thanks to pre-bending, we’ve already got a head start, making sure everything will turn out the way it should.
